Motivation and V02 Max Flashcards
(19 cards)
What is Motivation (A01)?
The drive to succeed.
Can be intrinsic and extrinsic.
What is Intrinsic Motivation?
Comes from within the athlete.
Inner drive.
Done for own sake, not rewards.
Satisfaction on completing task.
What is Extrinsic motivation?
Come from outside source.
Coaches or Spectators.
Can come from tangible rewards.
Can come from intangible rewards such as praise.
A03 ?
May become over reliant on rewards.
May lose value and incentive.
May lead to players cheating.
Intrinsic are stronger and longer lasting.
How can a coach develop motivation?
Offer extrinsic rewards earlier to reinforce behaviour.
Use extrinsic not as much to maintain its value.
Make it fun and enjoyable.
What are Need to Achieve personality types?
Not afraid of failure, stepping stone to success.
Welcome competition.
Take risks.
Confident.
Task persistent.
Attribute success to internal factors.
Welcome feedback.
What are Need to Avoid Failure personality types?
Afraid of failure, take steps to make sure they don’t fail.
Give up easily.
Don’t like feedback or evaluation.
Take the easy option.
Lack confidence.
Avoid 50/50 challenges.
What is Achievement Goal Theory?
Athletes motivation depends on types of goals set, success is measured by individual.
Outcome goals- beating others.
Takes-related goals- process of success.
What is V02 max?
The maximum volume of oxygen that can be taken in per minute
How to know if v02 max is reach on the graph?
it will start to decline
What type of athletes have higher Vo2 max?
The athletes with more endurance
What ate the 4 factors effecting V02 max?
Physiology
Lifestyle
Genetic
Gender
Physiology aspects that affect Go2 max?
Cardiac hypertrophy- Stroke Volume
Volume of haemoglobin
Myoglobin in muscles
Capillary density
Lifestyles effects?
Exercise Levels
Smoking
Methods of training
Age
Genetics effect?
Inheritance of good V02 development from parents
Gender?
Males have higher V02 max, generally
What is OBLA, and lactate tolerance?
OBLA is onset blood lactate accumulation, which is an individuals lactate threshold.
Lactate tolerance is how much lactic acid an individual can tolerate.
Lactic acid facts relating to OBLA
Aerobic activity to anaerobic activity will increase lactic acid build up.
More training will develop lactate threshold and tolerance
How do V02 max and OBLA link?
O2 is needed to get rid of lactic acid.
High VO2 max will delay OBLA
