Movement Anaylsis Flashcards
Describe the sagital plane of movement?
-it splits the body into left and right
-extension and Flexion take place here
What is a practical example for the sagital plane?
Leg and arm action (Flexion and extension) during running
Describe the frontal plane?
-it divides the body into font and back
- abduction and adduction take place here
Give a practical example of the frontal plane?
Star jumps
Describe the transverse plane?
-It divides the body into upper and lower parts
-horizontal Flexion, horizontal extension, rotation and circumduction take place here
Give a practical example of a transverse plane?
At the shoulder circumduction when bowling in cricket
What are muscle contractions?
-it’s when the muscle generates a force and is under tension
What are are the different types of muscle contractions?
- isometric
- isotonic
-concentric
-eccentric
What is a isotonic muscle contraction?
It’s when a muscle changes length during its contraction, this can happen in two ways: eccentric & concentric
What is a concentric muscle contraction?
It’s when the muscle gets shorter when generating a force
What is an eccentric muscle contraction?
It’s when a muscle gets longer whilst generating a force.
What is an example of a concentric muscle contraction?
Upwards phase of a bicep curl (the bicep brachii concentrically contracts lifting the weight up to the shoulder)
What is an example of an eccentric muscle contraction?
Downwards phase of a bicep curl, the bicep brachii contract eccentrically to lower the weight down under control ( acts as a brake)
What is an isometric muscle contraction?
It’s when the muscle doesn’t change length whilst contracting
What is an example of an isometric muscle contraction?
During plank the rectus femoras contracts isometrically
What type of joint is the hip and shoulder
Ball and socket
What type of joint is the ankle, elbow and knee?
Hinge joint
What type of joint is the wrist joint?
Condyloid joint
What muscle movements take place at the shoulder?
Flexion, extension, horizontal Flexion, horizontal extension, abduction, adduction, medial rotation and lateral rotation
Describe the agonist and antagonist of Flexion at the shoulder joint?
Agonist- anterior deltoid
Antagonist- posterior deltoid
what are the agonist and antagonist of horizontal flexion?
The opposite of Flexion
What is a practical example of horizontal Flexion?
Execution of forearm in tennis
Describe the agonist and antagonist of horizontal extension at the shoulder?
Agonist- posterior deltoid
Antagonist- pectoralis major
What is an example of horizontal extension?
Preparation phase of forearm in tennis
