Movement descriptors Flashcards
(11 cards)
What are the three planes of movement?
- Sagittal plane
- frontal plane
- Transverse plane
What axis corresponds to the sagittal plane?
Frontal
What axis corresponds to the frontal plane?
sagittal
What axis corresponds to the transverse plane?
longitudinal
How does the sagittal plane divide the body?
Left and right
How does the frontal plane divide the body?
Front and back
How does the transversal plane divide the body?
Upper and lower
How do you remember what axis will be used for each movement?
- the axis will be perpendicular to the plane
- EXAMPLE : Moving in the frontal plane (front and back) is around sagittal axis (Which plane is left and ight)
What types of movement happen in the frontal plane/ sagittal axis?
abduction/adduction
What type of movement takes place in the sagittal plane/ frontal axis?
flexion/extension
What type of movement takes place in the Transverse plane/longitudinal axis?
Internal/external rotation
