What is diffusion
Movement of molecules from high to low concentration, across a concentration gradient
What is osmosis
Net movement of water from high water potential to low water through a partially permeable membrane
What is active transport
Molecules from low to high concentration, against a concentration gradient. Requires energy and carrier molecules
How does surface area to volume ratio affect movement
Faster if there is a bigger surface area. SA : VOL small
How does temperature affect movement
Increase in temperature and KE, faster movement. Rate of movement higher at high temperature
How does difference in concentration affect movement
Larger difference , faster net movement
Diffusion in gas exchange
O2 moves in CO2 moves out. High to low concentration gradient
