Ms. Tone Flashcards
(11 cards)
What is Flaccidity
Lack of tone, Hypotonicity (zero resistance), LMNL
What is Spasticity
Velocity-dependent, Hypertonicity, (Fast Stretch = more resistance)
Spasticity is not?
Paralysis, Hyperreflexia, Ms. Spasm, Ms. Guarding, Clonus
What is dyskinesia? And what are under it?
Dyskinesia = Abn movement
- Chorea : Jerky
- Ballismus : Larger, Flinging movements
- Athetosis : Slow, worm-like, twisting movements
- Dystonia : Abn Tone
Explain the Modified Ashworth Scale (MAS)
0 : no ^ ms. Tone
1 : slight ^ Ms. Tone
1+ : Less than half of ROM
2 : most of the ROM
3 : Considerable ^ Ms. Tone
4 : Rigid
What are the difference between ATNR and STNR?
- ATNR (Asymmetrical Tonic Neck Reflex)
- Stimulus : Head Rot. (Fencing)
- Affects tone & ADL
- Feeding - STNR (Symmetrical Tonic Neck Reflex)
- Stimulus : ✔️Head = ✔️UE, /LE
/ Head = / UE, ✔️LE
Muscular Contribution
- Contractile elements of Ms.
- Cellular elements providing structure
- Connective tissue providing coverings for fibers & Ms.
- Tendon attaching ms. to bone
Action Potential
- -70 mV
- When tissue becomes taut, ms. is fully lengthened
- Slack to low tension, relaxed
Abn ms. tone and its consequences
1* impairment = Nn. root compression at spine
2* impairment = Paresis, Hypotonicity, Sensory Deficit, Pain
Functional limitation = Atrophy, Ms. Tightness
Disability = Unable to work
