MSK LL Areas Flashcards
(15 cards)
What are the borders f the femoral triangle?
Superior = inguinal ligament, Medial = adductor longus, Lateral = sartorius
What makes up the toof/Base of the femoral triangle?
Base = Pectineus, Ilipsoas and Adductor longus Roof = fascia lata
What are the contents of the femoral triangle?
Femoral nerve, femoral artery, femoral vein, empty space and lymph nodes
What is contained within the femoral sheath ?
Femoral artery, vein and femoral canal
What does the femoral sheath contain?
Femoral artery, Femoral vein and femoral canal (NOT nerve)
Where does the inguinal ligament run from/to?
From the ASIS to the pubic tubercle
What is the femoral canal?
The smallest and most medial part of the femoral sheath
What are the borders of the femoral canal?
Anterior = Inguinal ligament, Posterior = pectineus, Medial = lacunar ligament, Lateral = femoral vein
What are the contents of the femoral canal?
Lymphatic vessels, Deep lymph node, empty space and loose connective tissue
What is the popliteal fossa?
Diamond shaped area on the posterior side of the knee
What are the borders of the popliteal fossa?
Superiomedial = Semimembranosus, Superiolateral = biceps femoris, Inferiomedial = Medial head of gastrocnemius, Inferiolateral = Lateral head of gastrocnemius
What are the contents of the popliteal fossa?
Popliteal artery, politeal vein, tibeal nerve and common fibular nerve.
What is the adductor hiatus?
A gap between the adductor magnus muscle and the femur
What runs through the adductor hiatus?
Femoral artery and femoral vein
What structure is ‘associated’ with the popliteal fossa?
Saphenous nerve, doesn’t leave through the adductor hiatus but penetrates superficially halfway through the adductor canal.
