MSK LL Nerves Flashcards
(35 cards)
What nerves arise from the lumbar plexus?
I, I Get Left Overs On Friday
Iliohypogastric, Ilioinguinal, Genitofemoral, Later cutaneous nerve of the thigh, Obturator, Femoral
What roots does the lumbar plexus arise from?
T12,L1,2,3,4
What nerves arise from the sacral plexus?
Superior and inferior gluteal, sciatic, posterior femoral cutaneous, pudendal and nerves to piriformic, obturator internus and quadrator femoris.
What roots does the sacral plexus arise from?
L4,5,S1,2,3,4
What does the femoral nerve innervate?
The anterior muscles of the thigh
When does the femoral nerve split and what into?
Behind the inguinal ligament
Anterior and posterior branches
What is the terminal cutaneous branch of the femoral nerve?
Saphenous nrve
What are the nerve roots of the femoral nerve?
L2-L4
What are the nerve roots of the sciatic nerve?
L4-S3
What does the sciatic nerve innervate?
The muscles of the posterior thigh and the hamstring portion of the adductor magnus
When does the sciatic nerve spit? What into?
At the apex of the popliteal fossa. Into the common fibular and tibial nerves
What are the roots of the obturator nerve?
L2-L4
What does the obturator nerve innervate?
The medial (adductor) compartment of the thigh
How does the sciatic nerve leave the pelvis?
Via the greater sciatic foreamen. Inferior to the piriformis muscle
When does the obturator nerve split and into what?
As it enters the thigh through the obturator canal. Anterior and posterior divisions.
How does the sciatic nerve enter the gluteal nerve?
Via the greater sciatic foreamen
Which 2 bones landmarks must you consider when giving intramuscular injections
The highest point of the iliac crest - this gives the point where you draw the line descending vertically.
The horizontal line passes though the vertical line half way between the highest point of the iliac crest and the ishial tuberosity
From what nerve does the common fibular nerve arise fro?
Sciatic
From what nerve does the tibial nerve arise from?
Sciatic
What is the common fibular nerve also known as?
The peroneal
What branches does the common fibular nerve split into?
The deep fibular (peroneal) and the superficial fibular (peroneal)
What does the common fibular nerve innervate directly?
The biceps femoris and the skin over the upper lateral and lower posterolateral parts of the leg
What does the superficial fibular nerve innervate?
The muscles of the lateral compartment of the leg and he vast majority of the skin over the dorsum of the foot
What does the deep fibular nerve innervate?
The muscles of the anterior compartment of the leg and a triangular region of skin between the 1st and 2st toes.
