What is meant by post-partum blues a.k.a. baby blues?
A
Common transient change in emotional state presenting within the first two weeks of delivery.
Typical symptoms include: tearfulness, fatigue, poor concentration, anxiety.
Very good prognosis
Peaks day 5 postnatal

What is meant by post-partum depression?
A
Depressive affective disorder which typically presents 4-6 weeks after delivery

What is meant by post-partum psychosis?
A
Psychotic illness which usually develops within days after delivery. Symptoms can include paranoia, delusions, hallucinations, loss of inhibition, agitation and loss of contact with reality
