Q

What is the duration and capacity of the sensory register

A

Brief
High capacity but information only passes further if we pay attention to it

Q

Describe the HM case study

A

Brain surgery to relive epilepsy accidentally removes both sides of hippocampus (needed for memory)
Couldn’t for ltm but performed well in stm
Provides evidence for different memory stores

Q

What is a strength of the msm

A

Supporting research by baddley
- when using stm we mix up similar sounding words and when using ltm we mix up similar meaning words
Suggests different stores

Q

What are the 2 limitations of the msm

A

Evidence of more than one stm store
- case study of KF had amnesia and couldn’t recall digits when read to him but could if he read them himself

Prolonged rehearsal is not needed to transfer stm to ltm. Instead it is measured by amount and we link it to pre existing knowledge
