baddeley shows there are 2 separate memory stores shows coding at STM is acoustic and LTM is semantic good early model which encouraged further research

baddeley learn different lists of words immediate recall had most mistakes with accoustically similar words recall after 20 mins had most mistakes with semantically similar words

20 mins may not have been long enough to test LTM

5 weaknesses of MSM
is sensory register an actual store bahrik doesn't support that LTM id completely unlimited shallice and warrington say STM is much more complex that MSM originally suggest doesn't account for individual differences are the processes to simplistic

practical application to MSM
need to pay more attention first and lots of maintenance rehearsal to get to LTM
