muscle physiology/muscle energy Flashcards
(12 cards)
cross bridge formation
signal comes from motor nerve activating the fibre > the heads of the myosin filaments attach themselves to actin filaments
cross bridge movement
myosin attaches to actin, pulls along, then detaches and repeats to shorten sarcomere
cross bridges
overlapping of actin and myosin
fewer cross bridges can form/sarcomeres too close together =
less force produced
sarcoplasmic reticulum
labyrinth of tubules inside of fiber
T-tubules (transverse tubules)
connect sarcoplasmic reticulum with outer membrane (sarcolemma)
connective tissue
comprised of protein collagen surrounds all myofibrils, muscle fiber and muscle fiber bundles
neural impulse/action potential
electrical currents that pass along nerve fibers
motor unit
each motor nerve supplies nerves to many muscle fibers
synapses
impulses crossing gaps between adjoining nerves
motor end plate
impulses cross gap to innervate muscle
acetylcholine
