Muscular System Flashcards
(36 cards)
Adductors
anteromedially on the leg, meaning in front and toward the middle.
Biceps Branchi
lies under the arm between the shoulder and the elbow
Biceps Femoris
important for knee flexion, internal and external rotation, and hip extension
Buccinators
a flat, thin muscle in the wall of the cheek
Deltoid
located on the uppermost part of the arm and the top of the shoulder
Extensors
a muscle whose contraction extends or straightens a limb or other part of the body
External Intercostals
raise the ribs and expand the chest cavity
External Oblique
help pull the chest as a whole downwards which compresses the abdominal cavity
Fibularis longus
lateral compartment of the leg
Flexors
a muscle whose contraction bends a limb or other part of the body.
Frontalis
is muscle which covers parts of the skull
Gastrocnemius
on the back portion of the lower leg, being one of the two major muscles that make up the calf
Gluteus Maximus
in the buttocks and is regarded as one of the strongest muscles in the human body.
Gluteus Medius
A muscle with origin in the ilium, with insertion to the surface of the greater trochanter, with nerve supply from the superior gluteal nerve, and whose action abducts and rotates the thigh.
Internal Oblique
muscle ends at the bottom edge of the rib cage, the rectus sheath (fibrous tissue that covers the abdominal muscles), and the pubic crest (an area in the lower-front of the pelvis).
Latissimus Dorsi
either of a pair of large, roughly triangular muscles covering the lower part of the back, extending from the sacral, lumbar, and lower thoracic vertebrae to the armpits.
Masseter
a muscle that runs through the rear part of the cheek from the temporal bone to the lower jaw on each side and closes the jaw in chewing.
Orbicularis Oculi
a muscle in the face that closes the eyelids.
Orbicularis Oris
muscle is a complex of muscles in the lips that encircles the mouth
Pectoralis Major
muscle is a large muscle in the upper chest, fanning across the chest from the shoulder to the breastbone.
Rectus Abdominus
each of a pair of long flat muscles at the front of the abdomen, joining the sternum to the pubis and acting to bend the whole body forward or sideways.
Rectus Femoris
one of the four quadriceps muscles of the human body.
Sartorius
a long, narrow muscle running obliquely across the front of each thigh from the hipbone to the inside of the leg below the knee.
Semimembranosus
a large muscle of the inner part and back of the thigh that arises by a thick tendon from the back part of the tuberosity of the ischium, is inserted into the medial condyle of the tibia, and acts to flex the leg and rotate it medially and to extend the thigh.
