What do voluntary muscles do?
Make the body move as they’re attached to bones
Provide an example of voluntary muscles
Pectorals and trapezius
What do involuntary muscles do?
Work internal organs, outside our control
What’s a cardiac muscle?
A muscle that’s unique to the heart, it doesn’t tire
What’s an origin?
The place the muscle starts
What’s an insertion?
The place the muscle finishes
What’s the relaxing muscle called?
Antagonist
What’s the contracting muscle called?
Agonist
What are muscles made up of?
Muscle fibres
What happens when muscle fibres contract?
They pull on the bone and cause movement
Can muscles push?

Why do muscles work in pairs? What is the pair name?
So the bone can move forwards and backwards. Antagonistic pairs
What are the 5 types of muscle action?
Extension, flexion, rotation, adduction and abduction
What happens at plantar flexion?
The toes point down (gastrocnemius)
What happens at dorsiflexion?
When toes pull up (tibialis anterior)
