Q

What are the three types of muscle?

A

Cardiac - muscle of the heart (myocardium). Regulated by cardiovascular system

Skeletal- enables movement & contracts when required. Holds body upright

Smooth- found in the walls of hollow organs, contracts to regulate movement

Q

What are the characteristics of muscle

A
  • excitability: receives and responds to stimuli
  • contractibility: ability to shorten and thicken
  • extensibility: ability to stretch
  • elasticity: ability to return to normal shape after contraction or extension
