A

arrhythmias
cardiac failure
soft heart sounds, prominent 3rd HS, tachycardia
pericardial rub may be heard

what causes it

A

coxsackie A and B
adenoviral infection
non infectious cause - after rheumatic fever, after drug or SLE

how is it diagnosed

A

ECG (ST/T abnormalities)
CXR - cardiac enlargement
viral culture / PCR
Elevated CK, troponin

what is treatment

A

supportive - treat underlying cause
bed rest in acute phase - avoid athletics for 6mnths
treat complications - ACEI, B blockers, spironolactone, digoxin
