Myopia B6 Flashcards
(17 cards)
________ is more common than the other types of myopia, it is generally less than 6 diopters.
Simple myopia
_____________ occurs when the degree of myopia is unequal in the two eyes.
Anisometropic Myopia
_________ occurs only in dim illumination, due primarily to increased accommodative response associated with low levels of light
Nocturnal Myopia
________ is the result of an increase in ocular refractive power due to overstimulation of the eye’s accommodative mechanism or ciliary spasm.
Pseudomyopia
__________________ is the result of exposure to various pharmaceutical agents, variation in blood sugar levels, nuclear sclerosis of lens, or other anomalous conditions.
Induced or Acquired Myopia
Diabetes can lead to this
_________________ is associated with degenerative changes in the posterior segment of the eye.
Pathological Myopia
Traditional cataracts can cause what?
Myopic shift
What is most likely symptom of Myopia?
The most common symptom associated with uncorrected myopia is blurred distance vision
Do we expect asthenopia (eye strain) for myopia patients?
yes
Primary sign of myopia?
reduced unaided distance visual acuity
Near triad
Eyes converge
Pupils constrict
Accommodation
What is our goal with prescribing?
Clear, comfortable, single binocular vision
What is a risk for degenerative Myopia?
retinal detachment, flashes and floaters are a symptom
What should you do with induced myopia?
don’t give them a new prescription, because their prescription could change. Educate them on what is changing their vision and how to avoid the induced myopia in the future.
WHat should you do for a degenerative myope?
Have annual or more frequent eye and vision exams. Educate them on retinal detachment signs and symptoms.
What should you do with pseudomyopia?
Patients should be educated that the goal of treatment for pseudomyopia is to relax accommodation. Vision therapy can be incorporated.
What should you do for Nocturnal myopia?
Patients should wear their glasses for nighttime driving.
