Q

What are the four MFD entries that are duplicatable on the DEP?

A

Low Altitude Warning (LAW), Course (CRS), Heading (HDG) and BINGO

2
Q

Loss of the Stability Augmentation Data Sensor (SADS) computer will cause loss of what other items?

A
  • Slats (the <217 kt relay will fail to energize),
  • Control Augmentation (C AUG),
  • NWS AUG, and
  • blank info on displays (IAS, TAS, Altitude, Mach number, etc)
3
Q

How do you set the barometric pressure (altimeter) setting on the DEU?

A

Through the front cockpit standby altimeter, which sends the altimeter setting to the DEU

4
Q

When is the OFF flag displayed on the standby attitude indicator?

A

Whenever power is lost or the unit is caged

5
Q

Will your standby attitude indicator work in a total electrical failure?

A

A minimum of 9 minutes of reliable attitude information is available after power loss, even though the OFF flag is in view

6
Q

Will the standby altimeter continue to operate with a loss of the generator?

A

Yes, because it operates directly off static pressure. However, it may jump or lag because the vibrator operates off the 28 Vdc generator bus.

7
Q

Will the standby turn needle continue to operate in the event of a total electrical failure?

A

No, the turn needle is driven by an electric gyro which is powered off the 28 Vdc essential bus. The inclinometer will continue to work as it is purely mechanical

8
Q

At what AOA do the rudder pedal shakers and stall warning tone activate?

A

21.5 units

9
Q

When are the AOA indexers and approach lights illuminated?

A

When the landing gear is down and locked and nose landing gear is weight-off-wheels

10
Q

What AOA ranges cause the green, amber, and red indicator lights on the AOA indexer and approach lights to illuminate?

A

≥18 units (slow) - green chevron (green approach light)
17.5-18 units - green chevron and amber donut (amber approach light)
16.5-17.5 units (on speed) - amber donut (amber approach light)
16-16.5 units - amber donut and red chevron (amber approach light)
≤16 units (fast) - red chevron (red approach light)

11
Q

When will the AOA indexers and approach lights flash?

A

When HOOK BYP switch is in CARRIER position, landing gear is down, weight-off-wheels and hook is not down

12
Q

When does the RAD ALT display altitude?

A

From 0-5000’ AGL at aircraft attitudes of 40 degrees or less bank or pitch

13
Q

What is the GINA and what are its main functions?

A

The GINA is an integrated inertial navigation system (INS) and GPS. It provide attitude, position, acceleration, heading, and time to the DEU

14
Q

What is the heart of the avionics system?

A

The Display Electronics Unit (DEU)

15
Q

What component provides air data to the DEU?

A

Stability Augmentation Data Sensor (SADS)

16
Q

What are the main functions of the Airborne Data Recording System?

A

The ADRS provides the combined functions of

  • flight incident recording,
  • structural monitoring,
  • engine monitoring, and
  • digitizing data for transmission to the DEU
17
Q

What does ADR, ASDC, and DDS stand for?

A

Airborne Data Recorder, Advanced Signal Data Computer, and Digital Data Set. (The DDS is the most recent modification and is installed in most of the jets)

18
Q

What will you lose in the event of an ADR/ASDC/DDS failure?

A
  • HYD caution - HYD 2 bypass valve may open-
  • F PRESS caution - fuel boost pumps are lost
  • AOA, TAS and wind speed/direction on MFD and HUD
  • All engine data on Engine page
19
Q

What are the four types of GINA failures?

A
  • Miscompare,
  • GPS,
  • INS, or
  • complete GINA failure
20
Q

What options will you lose on your ADI display if you have a GPS failure?

A

HYBD and GPS options will disappear

21
Q

What causes a miscompare failure and what are its indications?

A

Miscompare is caused when INS and GPS outputs do not agree within a certain threshold.
Indications: “AVBIT” advisory and the loss of all velocity-derived information (vertical velocity, velocity vector, ground speed, wind speed/direction, time-to-go, and baro-altitude reverts to un-filtered)

22
Q

What advisories are displayed and what information is lost on the ADI during an INS failure?

A

ATTITUDE/POSITION, and AVBIT advisories

Attitude, heading, vertical velocity, Gs, and turn and slip indications, etc. (basically everything except air data)

23
Q

What is the difference between an INS failure and a total GINA failure?

A

GPS option remains available with an INS failure, allowing the display of positional/time information

24
Q

What are the different GINA operation modes?

A

HYBD - GPS provides position updates/corrections to INS (most accurate, automatically selected on power-up)

INS - Nav data provided solely by INS (automatically selected if GPS fails)

GPS - aircraft position data is provided solely by GPS (velocity vector and attitude is still driven by INS)

DGRO - attitude/heading backup mode (automatically selected when there is insufficient initialization data)

25
Q

Can you file a flight plan based on GPS navigation?

A

No. GPS may not be used as a primary nav source to file or fly in national airspace.

26
Q

How do you select which cockpit has control of the radios?

A

By pressing the COMM 1 or COMM 2 transfer switches on the COMM control transfer panel

27
Q

What frequency bands are the comm radios capable of?

A

VHF and UHF from 30 to 399.975 MHz

28
Q

What frequency range does the AM/FM switch function in?

A

Normally left in the AM position, the AM/FM mode switch only functions in the UHF range (225 to 399.975). In all other bands, AM or FM mode selection is automatic

29
Q

What is the function of the ALT/NORM switch on the COMM control panel?

A

Allows selection of alternate audio amplifier when normal amplifier circuitry fails

30
Q

A

MODE C contains encoded altitude information provided by the DEU

31
Q

How long is the IDENT function in effect after being pressed?

A

32
Q

What switches have to be set for the transponder to operate normally?

A
