What determines what is natural vegetation?
Natural vegetation includes plants and trees that grow naturally, without the help of people.
Where does fynbos grow?
In the Western Cape.
Fynbos includes proteas, ericas and restios. What types of conditions are these plants suited to?
They are suited to dry hot summers with fires, and winters that are cold and wet.
What is the purpose of their leaves wbing waxy or spiky?
This stops then losing water when there is drought or high temperatures.
What type of conditions does the Northern Cape have?
It has desert conditions.
What are the characteristics of desert conditions?
It is mostly dry, with small bushes and succulent plants that survive the cold winters and hot summers.
How do succulent plants survive hot, dry summers?
They store water in their fleshy leaves.
What two areas in South Africa have high average rainfall and warm conditions?
The Southern Cape and KwaZulu-Natal
Why is it that trees grow tall in strong in these two area?
It is because of all the warmth and water that is available in these two areas.

Why is it that there are few trees and shrubs in these areas?
It is because grasslands burn easily from wildfires.

They are usually flat or low, with rolling hills and valleys.

Farming crops like maize and wheat.
What type of wildlife live in grasslands?
Buffalo and buck, as well predators like hyenas, lions and leopards that kill the buck for food.
