Describe the re-arming of the German military under Hitler.
Germany after the first world war was only aloud to have 100,000 foot soldiers and relatively no Navy or Air force. Under Hitler’s rule, Germany steadily rebuilt its previously vast empire under totalitarian rule.
What was the Allies reaction to Germany seizing the Rhineland.
The British and French certainly did not like that the German’s were disobeying the treaty of Versailles. But at the same time they also wanted to do everything in their power to prevent a second world war. So they ultimately aloud they German’s to re-conquer the Rhineland without punishment, Hoping that if they left the Nazi’s alone, they would be satisfied and cease to conquer more territory.
How did the allied forces react to Germany’s “bloodless” annexation of Austria.
The allies had little to no reaction to Nazi Germany claiming Austria because for the most part the Austrian people were happy about it and ultimately supported Hitler.
Why did the allies agree to Germany seizing the Sudetenland.
The British and French met with Hitler in 1938 to see if they could come to a mutual agreement for Germany to stop seizing territory in eastern Europe. The final decision was to allow Germany to take control of German speaking territory of Czechs Slovakia known as the Sudetenland. this decision however was not made with Slovakia’s consent. but the allies were willing to do this hoping that it would satisfy Hitler and prevent another world war.
