what were hitlers economic policies

A
  • abolished independent trade unions and strikes were made illegal
  • public work schemes were set up to build motorways (Autobahnen)
  • Rearmament took place. This involved ships, submarines, air craft; arms and ammunition being manufactured again for the German military
  • he created a car called Volkswagen which means “ the people’s car”. it was cheap so that most people could buy it
  • he cut taxes to encourage private industry

A
  • Nazi youth groups were set up ( Hitler Youth, the League of German Maidens)
  • textbooks were rewritten to glorify hitler and germany. Mein Kampf became the official history book.
  • teachers had to be members of the Nazi Party
  • a portrait of hitler was displayed in every classroom

what were women’s roles in nazi germany

A

they were expected to stay at home and look after the family, keep the home nice for the husband.

  • lives revolves around the three Ks ( Kinder, Küche and Kirche) - children, kitchen and church.
  • hitler wanted a high birth rate so women who had more than eight children were rewarded a gold medal
  • they wore traditional peasant costumes with flat shoes and their hair up in buns or plaits.

A

to control which information reached the public and to influence popular opinion

A

he was the Minister for National Enlightenment and Propaganda. he was in control of press, radio, theatres, cinemas and art.

what did Goebbels do

A

he organized the production of cheap radios (the people’s radio) so that hitlers speeches could reach every home. Loudspeakers were installed in the streets

  • books made by jews or that were disagreeing with Nazism were banned. Book burnings took place to dispose of these books.
  • posters displayed hitler as a godlike figure
  • people had to celebrate hitlers birthday and greet everyone with ‘Heil Hitler’
  • the navies held party rallies in Nuremberg Bavaria. These were called the Nuremberg Rallies.
  • the 1936 Olympics were held in Berlin

when a jewish teenager murdered a german diplomat in paris then there was a two fay riot across germany where Jewish owned buildings were destroyed and Jewish people were sent to concentration camps
