“Analgesic” NOT anti-inflammatory

A

Indication: mild pain and fever
MoA: COX inhibitor (irreversibly binds), enhances 5HT release, regulates body temp by acting at hypothalamus, PG synthetase inhibition
Adverse Rxn: hepatotoxicity (>4g/day), nephropathy

Acetazolamide/Diamox

“Carbonic Anhydrase Inhibitor”

A

Indication: Acute Angle Closure Glaucoma, CME (RP, mechanical),
MoA: carbonic anhydrase inhibitor, decreases aqueous production
Adverse Rxn: metallic taste, paraesthesias hands/feet, metabolic acidosis, thrombocytopenia, agranulocytosis, aplastic anemia
Contraindication: sulfa allergies and COPD

Indication: filamentary keratopathy, acetaminophen overdose, and cough (cystic fibrosis and COPD)
MoA: pro-drug, replenishes Glutathione, brkdwn disulfide bonds in protein to destroy mucus
Adverse Rxn: allergy, rash, fever, vomiting

Adverse Rxn: angioedema, SJS, MG exacerbation

Indication: HTN, CHF, preventing renal & retinal complications in DM
MoA: Angiotensin-Converting-Enzyme inhibitor, inhibits Angiotensin I converting to Angiotensin II
Adverse Rxn: fetal toxicity in pregnancy, angioedema, SJS, cough, photosensitivity
