(16 cards)
What is the definition of Population?
The entire group of individuals (or things or objects) to be studied
What is the definition of Sample?
A subset of the population that is being studied
What is the definition of Parameter?
A numerical summary of the population
What is the definition of Statistic?
A numerical summary based on a sample
What is the definition of Quantitative?
The results of counting or measuring attributes of a population (ex: height, weight, GPA, time)
What is the definition of Qualitative
The results of categorizing or describing attributes or characteristics of a population (ex: gender, zip code, eye color, hometown)
What is the definition of discrete?
Has either a finite (countable) number of values. The values of a discrete random variable can be plotted on a number line with space between each plot
What is the definition of Continuous?
Has infinitely many values. The values of a continuous random variable can be plotted on a number line in an uninterrupted fashion. It will include counting numbers but also fractions, decimals, or irrational numbers
What is the definition of Standardized value?
The distance of one data point from the mean, divided by the standard deviation of the distribution
What is the definition of Explanatory variables?
Variable that can be altered or manipulated in research (X)
What is the definition of a response variable?
A type of dependent variable changes the results. (Y)
Describe the shape of a graph distribution
Bell-Shaped (Normal), Right-skewed, Left-skewed
Locate the mean and median of a distribution
Normal: Mean=median=mode; Right-skewed: Mode<Median<Mean; Left-skewed: Mean<Median<Mode
What are the properties of the binomial distribution
What are the properties of the z-distribution
