Nerve pathways Flashcards
(35 cards)
Roots of median Nerve
lateral (C5,6,7) and medial (C8 and T1) cords of the brachial plexus
Path of the Median nerve in relation to brachial A?
Descends lateral to BA, crosses to its medial side (passing ant).
Median N path passes deep to?
bicipital aponeurosis and the median cubital vein at the elbow
Median N passes between which 2 heads?
two heads of the pronator teres muscle. and runs on the deep surface of flexor digitorum superficialis (within its fascial sheath)
MEdian N path by the wrist?s sup and deep to?
becomes superficial between the tendons of flexor digitorum superficialis and flexor carpi radialis, deep to palmaris longus tendon.
Median N how does it enter the palm?
passes deep to the flexor retinaculum to enter the palm, but lies anterior to the long flexor tendons within the carpal tunnel
MEdian N supplies?
forearm muscles, and flexors. LOAF, sensory hand over thumb and lateral 2.5 figners, palmer cutaneous branch,
Pronator teres
Flexor carpi radialis
Palmaris longus
Flexor digitorum superficialis
Flexor pollicis longus
Flexor digitorum profundus (only the radial half)
MEdian N damaged by?
wrist, elbow, anterior interossus N
paralysis and wasting of thenar eminence muscles and opponens pollicis (ape hand deformity)
sensory loss to palmar aspect of lateral (radial) 2 ½ fingers
carpal tunnel syndroe, median N damage,
unable to pronate forearm
weak wrist flexion
ulnar deviation of wrist
injury of median N at elbow
What branch of median N leaves just below the elbow?
Anterior interosseous
ANt. int. N damage results in?
results in loss of pronation of forearm and weakness of long flexors of thumb and index finger
Ulnar N roots?
medial cord of brachial plexus (C8, T1)
Motor ulnar N?
medial two lumbricals aDductor pollicis interossei hypothenar muscles: abductor digiti minimi, flexor digiti minimi flexor carpi ulnaris
Sensory Ulnar N?
medial 1 1/2 fingers (palmar and dorsal aspects)
Ulnar N path?
posteromedial aspect of the upper arm to the flexor compartment of the forearm to palm of hand via guyon’s canal.
Ulner nerve path in palmer?
sup and deep to?
via the Guyon’s canal, superficial to the flexor retinaculum and lateral to the pisiform bone
Claw hand caused by?
hyperextension of the metacarpophalangeal joints and flexion at the distal and proximal interphalangeal joints of the 4th and 5th digits
Ulnar N damage at wrist? c
claw hand, wasting and paralysis of intrinsic hand (except lateral two lumbricals), hypothenar msucles, sensory loss to medial 1.5 fingers
ulnar N damage at elbow, causes wrist deviation to?
radial side
branches of ulnar N?
musclar, palmar cutanoues (middle of forwarm), dorsal cutaneous, superficial bracnh, deep branch
Root of radial N?
posterior cord of the brachial plexus (root values C5 to T1)
What muscles does the radial N lie on in the axilla?
subscapularis, latissimus dorsi and teres major
Is the Radial N posterior to axillary artery?
yes, lies on the muscles subscapularis, latissimus dorsi and teres major
