The receptor (the sensory organ) will send an electrical signal through a sensory neuron to a relay neuron which goes into the spine. The signal then goes up the spine into the brain. The brain then figures out an appropriate response and sends an electrical signal down the spine and into a motor neuron to an effector.

A reaction that bypasses the brain. The electrical signal goes from the receptor to the sensory neuron where electrical signals travel through the relay neuron in the spine and then goes into the motor neuron to an effector.
