The nervous system is split into 2:
- Peripheral
2 types :
1) Autonomic - controls self regulating organs and splits into parasympathetic (rest and digest) and sympathetic (fight or flight)
2) Somatic which is split into sensory input and motor output (controls skeletal muscles)

• Central nervous system
  Contains brain and spinal cord

Outline the function of the brain stem

Answer 2

Responsible for maintaining vital physiological functions (breathing and heart rate), serving as a relay centre for nerve signals, controlling cranial nerve activities
