Q

What are the brains surrounding membranes called?

What is the cerebrum and what lobes are found in it?

A

Meninges.

2 central hemispheres

Q

Function / injury of the spinal cord

A

Highway for communication between body + brain.

Injury means exchange of information with brain + other body parts is disrupted.

Q

Autonomic nervous system (2)

A

Nerves connecting CNS to organs such as heart, stomach + intestines.

Mediates unconscious activities.

Q

Somatic nervous system (4)

A

Nerves going to skin + muscles.

Involved in conscious activities.

Afferent spinal nerves - carry info from body to brain.

Efferent spinal nerves - carry info from brain to body.

Q

Principle of all or none law (4)

A

Muscle fibres don’t partially contract, either contract fully or not at all.

Number of motor units recruited is determined by force muscle generates e/g/ more strength = more motor units - means muscle maintain force throughout contraction.

A light looking box that’s heavy - not enough motor units recruited.

A heavy looking box that’s light - too many motor units recruited.

10
Q

How to enhance neuromuscular connections?

A

By challenging a system, improves it as if the muscles aren’t challenged the neuromuscular system becomes less capable.

Q

What does strength training do to strength?

A

Increases it between 6-20 weeks due to improved synchronisation of motor unit firing + ability to recruit more.

Q

What do beginners experience when the start strength training and why is exercise important?

A

Experiences rapid improvement as body recruits more motor units.

Exercise leads to better motor fitness.
