Nervous System Flashcards
(8 cards)
The nervous system splits off into which two systems.
Central nervous system - Brain & Spinal Cord
Peripheral nervous system
The Peripheral Nervous System branches into which 2 systems? Followed by what other systems?
Autonomic Nervous System
1. SNS 2. PSNS
Somatic Nervous System.
The Sympathetic Division describes what happens to the following parts of the body during activation.
You can mention the body parts but not what is after.
Eyes: Dilate to let in more light for far vision
Salivary Glands: inhibit secretion
Heart: increases HR
Lungs: Dilates bronchioles
Stomach: Inhibits stomach activity
Liver: Stimulates glucose release
Intestines: inhibits activity
Bladder: Relaxes bladder muscles
Genitals: inhibits arousal
Parasympathetic Nervous System, describe what happens to each part of the body upon activation.
Eyes: Constrict for near vision
Salivary Glands: Stimulates secretion
Heart: Decreases HR
Lungs: Constricts bronchioles
Stomach: Stimulates stomach activity
Liver: Inhibits glucose release
Intestines: Stimulates activity
Bladder: Constricts bladder muscles (emptying)
Genitals: Stimulates arousal
What are the 2 Types of Neurotransmitters and what system does each belong to?
- Noradrenaline - Sympathetic Nervous System (SNS)
- Acetylcholine - Parasympathetic Nervous System (PNS)
What are the two main receptor types?
- Adrenergic Receptors:
Alpha & Beta - Cholinergic Receptors:
Muscarinic & Nicotinic
Explain what
A1
A2
B1
B2
B3
A1: Constricts Peripheral blood vessels
A2: Controls release of neurotransmitters
B1: Increases heart rate & force of contraction
B2: Causes bronchodilation
B3: Cause lipolysis
What do Muscarinic and Nicotinic receptors do?
Mimic the action of acetylcholine, enhancing the rest and digest function
Also responds to nicotine
