Nervous System- Anatomy Flashcards
What are the glial cells of the PNS
- Schwann cells: form myelin sheath and help with axon regeneration
- Satellite cells: regulate fluid interaction to PNS ganglia
What are the Glial cells of the CNS
- Oligodendrocytes: form myelin sheath
- Ependymal: line ventricles and canals; form and move CSF
- Microglia: protection
- Astrocytes: blood-brain
2 types of reflex arcs
- Automonic: smooth and cardiac muscle- happens automatically
- Somatic: skeletal muscles
Where can CSF be found?
In subarachnoid space, central canal, ventricles
What is the choroid plexus and where is it located?
Located in roof of the 4 ventricles
Makes CSF from fluid in the capillaries that is processed by ependymal cells.
Conus medullaris
Where spinal cord stops ( roughly L1-L2)
Filum terminale
Connective tissue that connects cord to coccyx
What does the gray meter in the spinal cord contain?
-cell bodies of motor, and inter neurons, and neuroglia
What type of neurons does the dorsal horn contain?
Inter neuron cell bodies
What type of neurons does the ventral horn contain?
Motor neuron cell bodies
What makes up the brain stem?
Midbrain
Pons
Medulla oblongata
Function of medulla
Regulate cardiac, vasomotor, respiratory
Function of pons
Help control breathing
Function of midbrain
Help control movement through both visual and auditory
What makes up the diencephalon?
Thalamus
Hypothalamus
Epithalamus
