nervous system part 2 Flashcards
(19 cards)
what does CNS stand for
Central Nervous system
What does the CNS consist of?
consist of the rain and spinal cord
what is the largest and most complex part of the nervous system
The brain
what does the brain control in the nervous system
sensation, perception, movement, thinking
what does the bran stem connect the brain to
the spinal cord
brain consists of how many cerebral hemispheres
the brain consist of 2 cerebral hemisphere; Left and right
for the nervous system the brain is consisting of:
2 cerebral hemispheres, diencephalon, brainstem, cerebellum
both brain and spinal cord connect to the pns through way of:
peripheral nerves
what are meninges
membranes that protect brain and spinal cord; lie between bone and soft tissues of nervous system
the meninges are
membranes that protect brain and spinal cord
what are the 3 layers of meninges
dura mater, arachnoid mater, and pia mater
what is dura mater and what is its function
- Outer layer
- Tough, dense connective tissue
- Dural sinuses
- Epidural space
arachnoid mater
- Middle layer; web-like
- Subarachnoid space contains cerebrospinal fluid (CSF)
Pia mater
- Inner layer; attached to surface of brain, spinal cord
- Contains blood vessels and nerves
- Nourishes CNS
what does csf stand for?
Cerebral spinal fluid
where is Cerebral Spinal Fluid produced
in 4 ventricles, interconnected cavities within cerebral hemispheres, and brainstem
The four ventricals:
- 2 Lateral ventricles (called the first and second ventricles)
- Third ventricle
- Fourth ventricle
CSF is secreted by the
choroid plexuses
what is a choroid plexus
special capillaries of pia mater covered by ependymal cells
