nervous system test Flashcards
Difference between the somatic and autonomic nervous system
Somatic - consists of cranial and spinal nerve fibers that connect the CNS to the skin; controls skeletal muscle
Autonomic - include fibers that connect the CNS to the heart, stomach, intestines, and glands; controls heart and blood vessels and smooth muscle
Describe the difference between the central nervous system and the peripheral nervous system
The CNS consists of the brain and spinal cord. The PNS Is composed of peripheral nerves that connect the CNS to other parts of the body
What are the functions of the nervous system?
They control center for all body activities. Responds and adapts to changes inside and outside of the body
Label and give functions of the brainstem, cerebrum, and cerebellum
Cerebellum – bottom of brain; coordinates voluntary muscle movements
Cerebrum – fat part of brain; provides her brain functions such as memory and reasoning
Brainstem – connects brain to the spinal cord; connects to various parts of the nervous system and regulates visceral activities
Describe action potential
Starts with a stimulus then the neurotransmitter is sent out, then because of the Na+/K+ pumps, Depolarization have been causing the positive and negative charges the swap. Then when there is no stimulus repolarization starts and a goes back to the original charges
No how to label and give the function of the frontal lobe, temporal lobe, occipital lobe, and parietal lobe.
Frontal - carries out mental processes such as thinking, planning, and decision making.
Temporal - language and speech production &
memory association and formation
Occipital - processes visual information from the eyes
Parietal - processes sensory information that has to do with taste, temperature, and touch
