Network Flashcards
(22 cards)
What is a router?
A device that routes data packets between different networks, connecting LANs to WANs.
What is a data packet?
A small chunk of data sent over a network, containing a header, payload, and trailer.
What is an IP address?
A unique identifier assigned to devices communicating over the Internet.
What is IPv4?
An addressing system using 32-bit addresses, allowing over 4 billion unique addresses.
What is IPv6?
An addressing system using 128-bit addresses, providing more than a billion addresses per person.
What is a Network Interface Card (NIC)?
A hardware component that enables a computer to connect to a network.
What is a hub?
A networking device that broadcasts data to all connected devices, causing inefficiencies.
What is a switch?
A networking device that forwards data only to the intended recipient, improving efficiency.
What is a MAC address?
A unique identifier assigned to network interfaces, used for local network communication.
What is a bridge?
A device that connects two LANs to form a larger network.
What is a wireless network?
A network that uses radio waves to transmit data instead of cables.
What is Wi-Fi?
A wireless networking standard that allows devices to connect to the internet or LAN.
What is Bluetooth?
A short-range wireless technology used for connecting personal devices.
What is cloud storage?
A remote storage system that allows data access via the internet.
What are the three types of cloud storage?
Public cloud, Private cloud, Hybrid cloud.
What is the internet?
A global network of interconnected networks enabling communication and data exchange.
What is the World Wide Web?
A system of interconnected web pages accessed via the internet.
What is an intranet?
A private network used within an organization for secure communication and data sharing.
What is an extranet?
An extension of an intranet that allows external users controlled access.
What is a Local Area Network (LAN)?
A network covering a small geographical area, usually under one mile.
What is a Wireless Local Area Network (WLAN)?
A LAN that uses wireless technology for connectivity.
What is a Wide Area Network (WAN)?
A network spanning a large geographical area, connecting multiple LANs.
