Neuro Anatomy Flashcards
(17 cards)
Which is the nerve for elbow flexion?
Musculotaneous (c5-7)
A flattened deltoid is a result of injury to which nerve?
Axillary nerve - c5, c6
Damage to the radial nerve results in which symptoms?
Wrist drop (lack of forearm extension)
What does damage to the ulnar nerve result in?
Claw hand
A winged scapula suggests damage to which nerve?
Long thoracic nerve (inervates serratus anterior)
Sometimes caused by trauma or mastectomy
Damage to upper brachial plexus due to shoulder dystocia during birth causes what?
Erbs- palsy (waiters tip) - brachial plexus c5-c6
Lower brachial plexus (c8-t1) - klumpke injury
WhT dermatomone is the big toe?
Largest of the 5- L5
Smallest one - S1
What is brown-sequard syndrome?
Hemi-section of the spinal.
Ipsilateral motor weakness, propriaception and vibration
Contralateral loss of pain and temperature
Where does syringomyelia affect?
Ventral horns
Lateral spinothalamic tract
- flaccid paresis (hand muscles)
- loss of pain and temperature
Where does neurosyphilis affect?
Dorsal column
- loss of proprioception and vibration
What’s the route of the corticospinal tract?
Primary motor cortex (UMN A-alpha fibres) - internal capsule -
Decussates at medulla
Travel to cell bodies in central horn -
LMN leave ventral horn through the ventral root to muscles
Fracture of the surgical head of humerus can damage which nerve?
Axilliary nerve
Injury involving hanging off something damages which structure?
Brachial plexus (c8-t1), t1 also gives horners syndrome. Klumpkes paralysis - weak intrinsic hand muscles
What is the difference between Bell’s palsy and stroke?
StrokeUMN - forehead spared
Bells CN 7 LMN - forehead affected
What symptoms would you get with tonsillar conning (herniation)?
Compression of brain stem - cardio and resp centres
CN 6 palsy, up going plantars, irregular breathing - apnoea
What symptoms would you get with transtentorial/uncal (herniation)?
Ipsi CN3 palsy
Contralateral hemiparesis
Could lead to compression of contralateral CST too causing ipsi hemiparesis
What symptoms would you get with subfalcine (herniation)?
Frontal mass -> displacement of cingulate gurus -> compression of ACA -> stroke
