The French valued native Americans as trading partners. In exchange for furs, the traders provided goods such as cloth, iron pots, tools, and guns. The French made alliances with the Indian nations. However this proved determental to native Americans. For example, diseases caused by contact with Europeans killed many native Americans. In addition, the overt rapping of animals weAkened the food chain on which native Americans were no longer needed by the Europeans. Their land became valuable to the colonists.
