industry: what is IPSO? (independent press standards organisation)
IPSO is the independent regulator for most of the UK’s newspaper and magazine industry. Its role is to ensure that publishers adhere to the Editors’ Code of Practice and to independently handle complaints from the public about potential breaches of that code. IPSO also investigates breaches and can order corrections or rulings if the code has been violated

DMGT is a conservative company, therefore the daily mail is a conservative right wing supporting newspaper - you will find pro conservative articles (e.g pro trump) and anti-left wing content too

£26 million - means they are very controversial
industry: what does DMGT use to promote daily mail? where do they drive users?
social media to promote the daily mail and target modern online audiences and global audiences and constantly drives users to their website via links in an attempt to make more money
industry: what type of moderation do the daily mail use?
they use both automated and human moderation on its website comments section but it is virtually impossible to prevent extreme comments. could argue whether the daily mail would ban these comments even if they could - there are benefits e.g more publicity

- wrote a homophobic article about singer Stephan Gately, suggesting his sexuality was responsible for this death - the PCC received 25000 complaints and it resulted in advertisers pulling their adverts from the mail online
- tried to buy footage of a terrorist attack - brach of ipso - takes risks to attract readers

there is a scottish, irish, indian and general world mail version of the daily mail. also, in 2017 they partnered with CBS and Stage 29 Productions to launch daily mail tv in the US

they have a synergetic partnership with The People’s Daily, a chinese newspaper - this partnership allows them to get exclusive access to stories from within china that are often controlled or censored
