Newtons laws of motion. Flashcards
(13 cards)
Force.
A push or pull exerted on an object in order to change the motion of that object.
Motion.
A change in position over time.
Net force.
The combination of all forces acting on an object.
Speed.
Distance traveled per rate of time.
speed=distance/time.
Velocity.
The speed and direction of an object.
Acceleration.
The rate at which velocity changes over time.
Newtons third law.
For every action there is an equal but opposite reaction.
Newtons first law.
An object at rest will remain at rest and an object in motion will remain in motion unless acted upon by an outside force.
Newtons second law.
Force= Mass x acceleration.
Inertia.
The tendency of an object to resist being moved or, if the object is moving, to resist a change in speed or direction until an outside for acts on the object.
Friction.
A force that resists motion.
Mass.
the amount of matter in an object
Gravity.
An attractive force that exists between all objects that have mass.
