Newtons laws of motion Flashcards
(6 cards)
First law
Objects either stay at rest or move with constant velocity unless acted upon by a resultant force
Second law
The rate of change of momentum of an object is proportional to the resultant force acting on it
Third law
If body a exerts a force on body b then body b will exert an equal size force on body a in the opposite direction
What is weight ?
The force acting on an object due to gravity
What is mass ?
A measure of the amount of the amount of material
Third law in detail
The forces are always:
Are always the same type of force
Always have the same magnitude
Always act along the same line
Always act on different bodies
Always act in the opposite direction
