Newtons laws of motion vocabulary Flashcards
(13 cards)
Force
A push or pull exerted on an object in order to change the motion of the object
motion
A change in position over time
net force
The combination of all the forces acting on an object
speed
distance traveled per rate of time
velocity
the speed and direction of an object.
exceleration
The rate in which velocity changes over time
Newtons first law
An object at rest will remain at rest and an object in motion will remain in motion unless acted upon an outside force
Newtons second law
Force=mass x acceleration
Newtons third law
Foe every action there is an equal opposite reaction
Inertia
The tendency of an object to resist being moved or, if the object is moving, to resist a change in speed or direction until an outside force acts on an object
Friction
A force that resists motion
Mass
he amount of matter in an object
Gravity
An attractive force that exists between all objects that have mass
