NMR Flashcards
(9 cards)
1
Q
number of resonance/signals
A
number of unique hydrogens
2
Q
predicted integration
A
number of hydrogens on that C
3
Q
splitting pattern/multiplicity
A
number of hydrogens on neighboring C
Name would be n+1
Ex. 2 neightboring would be triple
4
Q
higher ppm = more halogen atoms
A
5
Q
isolated ethyl group
A
quartet (2H) with triplet (3H)
6
Q
isolated isopropyl group
A
septet with doublet
7
Q
isolated tert butyl group
A
1 peak with 9H written by it
8
Q
rules to analyze NMR
A
- find MF
- find degrees of Un
- look at number of signals and integration of each signal
- take integration heights and divide by smallest number
- multiply by 2 to get full number - draw out fragments
- recognize ethyl, isopropyl, tert butyl - assemble fragments
9
Q
degrees of U
A
U=0, no pi bonds or rings
U=1, 1 ring or 1 pi bond
U=4, ring
* for every degree of U, lose 2 H
