NMR spectroscopy Flashcards

1
Q

Give reasons why TMS is used as a standard in carbon NMR

A

It generates one sharp peak
It is unreactive so wont affect the sample being analysed
It is highly volatile so can be removed from the sample after analysis very easily
Peak always found on the far right of the spectrum

Q

what solvent is used in proton NMR and why

A

solvents using deuterium such as CDCl3
solvent wont produce any peaks of its own and will not interfere with the analysis.
