Nutritional requirements for babies
all nutrients required are contained in breast or formula milk
Nutritional requirements for Toddlers? (list 4)
This is a rapid stage of development
-protein for growth
-fats and carbohydrates for energy
-need fat soluble vitamins
-calcium and vitamin D for strong bones and teeth
-iron for healthy red cell development
-vitamin C to aid the absorption of iron and encourage healthy skin
-vitamin B to aid digestion, for development of the nervous system and for muscle growth

This is a stage of rapid growth

vitamins A and D

- body needs nutrients for maintenance and to ensure it functions correctly
- balanced diet is key to prevent weight gain or fluctuation

- calcium to prevent osteoporosis
- sufficient water and fibre to prevent constipation and bowel disorders
- iron to prevent anaemia
- vitamin C to aid the absorption of iron
- less fat and sugar as physical activity is reduced
- less salt to reduce blood pressure and risk of heart disease
