what are the types of observation and what are they?
A
- naturalistic observation = observing behaviour in natural environment
- controlled observation = observing behaviour in a controlled situation
- participant = researcher joins in with people they’re observing
- non pps = observes from the outside
- covert = researcher is unknown to the pps
- overt = researcher is known to pps
- structured = pre determined way of collecting data
- unstructured = researcher observes and records what they see

how do you carry out an observation?
A
- decide what to observe
- decide what observation to use
- if structured, use behavioural categories
- or use time sampling or event sampling
- correlate results to check for reliablity
