validity Flashcards
(5 cards)
what is validity?
how accurate something is
what is internal validity?
is the research or measuring what they’re trying to measure?
what is external validity?
is what the researcher tried to measure representative of the behaviours of the real world?
what are the three types of external validity?
1, ecological validity = the extent to which the research setting represents the real life setting which the researchers are aiming to investigate
2, population validity = the extent to which the findings applied to groups of people other than the participants
3, temporal validity = the extent which the findings applied to other time periods
how do you assess validity?
1, face validity = looking at something and making a judgement
2, content validity = seeing if something measures what’s supposed to
3, construct validity = same as content
4, predictive validity = seeing whether a score on a test predicts later behaviour
5, concurrent validity = comparing a new test to an already established test
