Obsessive-Compulsive disorder
presences of obsessions (thoughts, images, urges), compulsions (repetitive behaviors/mental acts), or both
attempts to ingnore or suppress obsesions (usually by performing compulsion)
compulsion aimed at preventing or reducing anxiety/distress, or preventing event/situation
time consuming ( 1+ hr a day)
can be with good, poor, or absent insight/delusional beliefs
treatments:
ERP (exposure and response prevention), CBT + SSRIs
Body Dysmorphic disorder
preoccupation with perceived defects/ flaws that are slight/not observable to others
- repetitive behaviors (like mirror checking, excessive grooming, skin picking, reassurance seeking) or mental acts (like comparing)
can be w/ muscle dysmorphia
with good, poor, or absent insight/delusional beliefs
associated w anxiety, social anxiety/avoidance, depressed mood, negative affectivity, rejection sensitivity, perfectionism
treatment: CBT and ERP, medication, family involvement, support groups,
Hoarding Disorder
difficulty discarding/parting w possessions
- distress associated w discarding
- results in accumulation of items that clutter living areas
- w/ excessive acquission - excessive buying
treatments:
- CBT, Exposure
Trichotillomania
Pulling out hair, leads to hair loss
- Made attempts to stop hair pulling
Treatments
- CBT (habit reversal therapy), hypnosis, SSRIS
Excoriation
Skin picking disorder
- recurrent skin picking resulting in lesions
- repeated attempts to stop
- usually atleast 1 hr a day
substance/medication induced obsessive-compulsive and related disorder
obsessions,compulsions, skin picking, hair pulling, other body-focused repetitive behaviors
- evidencere that it developed during or soon after substance intoxication or withdrawal
due to another medical condition

- direct consequence of medical condition
