What is the location of Odisha?
It is one of the states in India, bounded by the bay of Bengal on the east, with the southern tip bordering the sea of Andhra and the northern end connecting to West Bengal

The coastline is about 480 km long with 6 coastal districts
What is the sediment at Odisha predominately made up of?
Deltaic sediments of Mahanadi, Brahmana, Baitarani and Subarnarekha rivers of Quaternary age.
What are some natural factors effecting the coast at Odisha?
-Soil compaction: arable woodland and pasture land

-The coast houses many culturally important sites which have to be protected at all costs, meaning the villages are more impacted and some completely washed away.
-The building of artificial structures and mining activities have also impacted coastal erosion

-Sea erosion: in 2014, 10% of the coastline is highly vulnerable (Puri, Kendrapara and Ganjam)
-Climate change: sea level change (3.5-34 inches by end of the century) and changing wind patterns are causing high tidal waves
-Cyclones: cause extreme tidal variation
-Infrastructure development: happened more quickly in less populated areas
-Loss of biodiversity: turtles

-Integrated coastal zone management projects seek to plant mangrove and other shelterbelt species to protect aqua life
-Disaster preparedness and response to nearly 1200 villages
-Moving people out of villages which are close to or have been engulfed by rising water
