(8 cards)
What is the location of the Holderness Coastline?
It stretches along the coast of the East Riding of Yorkshire and is in between Flamborough Head to the north and Spurn Head to the south
What are the characteristics of the Holderness Coastline?
-Low lying
-Agricultural region
-Europe’s fastest eroding coastline
How does the geology of the Holderness effect the coast?
The majority of the coastline is made up of soft bolder blay which is easily eroded and slumps when wet
How do naturally narrow beaches effect the Holderness?
They provide less protection to the cliffs behind them as they don’t reduce the power of the waves as much, causing them to break at the base of the cliff
How have man mad structures effected the Holderness?
Groynes that have been put in place have caused negative impacts further down the coast, causing beaches to become narrower and stop growing
How do powerful waves effect the Holderness?
Because waves travel a long distance over the north fetch, the waves have more energy, which intern will increase erosion rates
What hard engineering is in place at the Holderness?
-Sea walls: e.g. Bridlington 4.7 km wall, Withernsea
-Rock armour: Hornsea
-Groynes: Withernsea, Mapleton (rock)
