- one of the ship commanders (companion of Odysseus)
- refused to enter circles hall even when accompanied by other men
- persuaded everyone to stay a night at thrinakia (land of Helios cattle) which resulted in the death of everyone except Odysseus

- ate 2 of Odysseus men (Odysseus blinded Polyphemus and escaped his cave)
Maron
The keeper of apollos grave at ismaros, provides the ithikans with wine
Elepnor
The man who fell to his death after falling of circes roof. He met Odysseus again in the underworld where he asked for a proper burial, so Odysseus gave him a proper burial later
Teiresias
The blind prophet who helps Odysseus
Aiolos
God of winds
- gives Odysseus the bag of winds to escape but they misuse it and up where they started (aiolos then no longer helps them, he says they are hateful to the immortals)
Skylla
6 headed monster that Odysseus was told to avoid but didn’t do so
Kharybdis
Odysseus must pass kharybdis
- a whirlpool that swallows the sea and spits it back up again
Calypso
Holds Odysseus captive because she loves him, she is jealous of Penelope (the wife of Odysseus)
Poseidon
God of the sea
- holds a grudge on Odysseus because he stabbed the eye of Polyphemus (his son)
- makes Odysseus roam finding someone who hasn’t heard of the ocean until he can come home
Helios
God of the sun
- raises awesome cattle that no one can touch, kill, or eat. The men of Odysseus do just that, so Helios lives in the underworld because he has nothing else to live for
Phaeacia
Odysseus sales from calypso’s island to phaeacia where he is fed and clothed. When they find out that it’s Odysseus they treat him very well and let him go after 3 days on one of Phaeacias magically swift boats
