Ohm's Law (FINAL) Flashcards
(8 cards)
Give the formula for Ohm’s Law.
V=IR or I=V/R=gV
Explain variables V, I, R, and g.
V = potential difference in volts
I = current in amperes
R = resistance
g = 1/R, which is capacitance, measured in Siemens
How do ion channels behave?
NOTE: Think in terms of circuit/electrical structures
Like conductors or resistors
What happens when permeant ions asymmetrically distribute across the plasma membrane?
The resulting gradient pushes them through an open channel
What is the conductance value when an ion channel is closed?
Zero
How does the cell membrane behave in response to ionic flow?
It acts as an ion flow barrier
How is the cell membrane’s resistance to ion flow determined?
Number/type of channels and pores present across membrane
What does Ohm’s law simply state?
Current flow (I) through a resistor with resistance R in Ohms
