Steps to reporting a sewage spill
- Report to Captain
- Close area until health services makes determination
- Chief informs HS & BH
- If confirmed issue “Beach Closed signs”
What are the beach closure signs and how far apart do they go?
- White “yellow black stripes” near storm drain runoff “water contact near storm drains may cause illness”
- placed 100 yards on each side of creek
- Beige “Red and black “excessive Bacteria that may cause illness” not caused by storm drains
- placed 50 + 100 yards on each side of drain
- Effected areas require a posted sign every 50 yards
Name the PWC qualifications
- Complete 30 hour course within a year
- Complete 10 hours of CE per year
- Instructors must take 10 hour train-trainer and instruct 10 hours of in-service training
- After each use: flush with fresh water and update Hour log by operator
- Log forwarded to PWC administrator every month
Name the beach driving speed limits
- 15mph
- 25mph for Code 3
must have on: headlights, lights, siren - 10mph at night. May patrol from roads if beach unsafe
State the minimum radius of a conned area & min. amount of cones.
- 25-30 feet from the base of the tower
- 8 cones minimum
State bike path incident vehicle placement
- remove patient from path if injury permits
- Back injury, neck injury, CPR etc: use the vehicle as a barrier, placing the vehicle between the incident and the oncoming bike traffic with the emergency lights on.
In the event of a LG vehicle accident
- Remain at the scene until a police report is made in cases of a fatality, injury, extensive damage, or damage that renders a vehicle inoperative.
- Notify supervisor
- If it involves another vehicle contact the Safety Office and the Command and Control Division
- Fill out an incident report form In accordance with Volume D, Chapter 8, Subject 1.
QRV PPE - Beach
Sandals, Shorts, Long-sleeved shirt, Sunglasses or safety goggles. Safety belt used at all times.
QRV - PPE - Large Events, parking lots, Off road(non-beach or paved road)
Shoes, pants, shirt, sunglasses or safety goggles. Safety belts used at all times.
What is the QRV report form and who is it submitted to
- division vehicle coordinator gets estimate
- purchase order issued from asst. chief of fleet services
- Form 581
Who establishes QRV maint. schedules
- Division QRV admin
List the 7 pre-operation checks for the QRV
- Walk around and check for damage.
- Check fluids.
- Check lights.
- Check gear engagement mechanism. (HONDA 2x4 to 4x4 / Polaris Ranger 1x6 to 2x6 to 6x6).
- Check all rescue and medical equipment is stocked and in its proper location.
- Clean rear view mirror.
- Complete QRV Check Sheet.
in addition to washing etc. what is a unique step we do to the QRV to ensure longevity
- Spray engine, wiring, metal with marine grade rust inhibitor silicone spray for lubricartion
- Lube Throttle
What is the ratio of lifeguards to participants at ocean events
- 1 lifeguard to 10 participants
During events, when may we need more lifeguards
- water colder than 68 degrees
When is baywatch needed at an event
- if the event is more than a mile or water temp is under 65 degrees
What is the Base Work Schedule
- The weekly schedule showing the daily work locations to which a lifeguard will be assigned.
What is a Lifeguard Request for Schedule (LRS)
- The document returned to the section chief with the lifeguards preferred BWS listed in order of preference.
What is a Detail assignment
- Assignment to a schedule in another section lasting the duration of the bid.
What is a Temporary assignment
- Assignment to a schedule in any section for less than the duration of the bid period.
- Any lifeguard may be temporarily assigned to one or more work locations where sectional service needs cannot otherwise be satisfied. The lifeguard will be returned to their BWS assignment upon conclusion of the temporary assignment.
When are OLS’s responsible for submitting their LRS
- October 20th
What happens if an OLS fails to meet their competency standard
- The OLS will be temporarily assigned until the section chief reinstates
What is a permanent vacancy
- an opening due to retirement, termination of service, promotion, or a change of assignment lasting the duration of the bid.
When are vacation requests submitted
- November 12th
