Respiratory system
the function is to get oxygen into your body cells and release the waste product carbon dioxide into the air
Pharynx
the region where the nose and mouth are connected at the back of the throat, leads to windpipe, nasal and oral cavity meet
Trachea
A wide tube with thick protective rings of cartilage that keep it open and filters air before entering the lungs
Bronchi
a large tube splits into two smaller tubes, like branches, which enter the left and right lungs
Lungs
the primary organ of respiration that facilitates the intake of oxygen and the breathing out of carbon dioxide
Diaphragm
a dome-shaped muscle positioned between the chest and abdominal cavities, contracts to allow inhalation, relaxes for exhalation
Alveoli
tiny sacs at the end of the bronchioles, complete process of gas exchange with capillaries, have a large surface area, a moist surface, a thin barrier
