Organelles Flashcards

(6 cards)

1
Q

What are some characteristics of the nucleus?

A

Surrounded by nuclear envelope which is a double membrane with nuclear pores that allow mRNA and ribosomes to pass through.

Contains nucleoplasm where chemical reactions take place

Nucleolus is inside and synthesis ribosomes

Q

What are some characteristics of mitochondria?

A

Surrounded by a double membrane (membrane bound) that controls what enters and exits the organelle

Has cristae which provide a large surface area for the attachment of enzymes and other proteins involved in respiration.

The matrix contains proteins, lipids, ribosomes and DNA that allow it to control the production of some of its own proteins. Contains many enzymes involved in respiration.
